Discovering Révélations at the Grand Palais, A Tribute to Exceptional Craftsmanship

Last weekend, I had the chance to visit Révélations, the international biennale of fine craft and contemporary creation in Paris. The event took place under the breathtaking glass roof of the Grand Palais, a space I fall in love with all over again every time I go.

So, what is Révélations?

Révélations is a biennale (meaning it happens every two years) that celebrates the work of master artisans, makers, and contemporary creators from all over the world. It was launched in 2013 by Ateliers d’Art de France, an organization that supports and promotes the craft professions.

This event it’s a true celebration of handmade work, creativity, heritage, and innovation. Each edition gathers creators from dozens of countries, showcasing unique objects made in materials like wood, ceramic, glass, textile, metal, and more.

My discoveries and highlights

Among the many inspiring artists, I was especially moved by the work of Laurence Bernard. She paints on antique fabrics, mostly linen, transforming them into powerful, monumental textile pieces. Her creations are just beautiful! They’re really big, and I love the colors she uses. There’s something very special in the way she uses pigment on old fabrics, is truly captivating.

This kind of work speaks to me,  it’s art that touches both visually and emotionally. It also reminds me that traditional techniques like marquetry, embroidery, and weaving are still very much alive, and are being reinvented today with so much creativity. There are still so many talents to discover!

A unique atmosphere

The venue itself adds so much to the experience. With natural light pouring through the iron and glass structure, every booth and artwork glows. Even the newly restored Grand Palais café has become a stylish, warm and elegant spot - perfect for taking a quiet break during the visit.

The Grand Palais: A New Chapter

The Grand Palais recently reopened after a comprehensive renovation that began in March 2021. This restoration, the most extensive in the building’s history, aimed to preserve its iconic Beaux-Arts architecture while enhancing its functionality for contemporary events. The project was completed in time for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, during which the Grand Palais hosted fencing and taekwondo competitions .

Following the Olympics, the Grand Palais resumed its role as a premier cultural venue. Notably, Chanel held its Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show in October 2024, marking the fashion house’s return to the historic site. Chanel has been a significant patron of the Grand Palais, contributing €25 million to its restoration and securing a five-year partnership to stage shows there .

What’s next?

I left the event feeling inspired. I know I’ll definitely be back for the next edition. I might even check out the international versions of Révélations, the event is expanding, including to Italy.

Events like this are essential. They remind us how valuable handmade work is, how unique every artisan’s gesture can be, and how important it is to encourage, support, and admire this kind of creation.
